Giving up for the second time this year, as i have honestly had enough of feeling lethargic, tired, bored while sober, and dependant on anything. My girlfriend works as a travel agent, and i 'came out of retuirement' for two months in order to accompany her to amsterdam (on a free trip), which then led me back to my old ways. Enough is enough - i have wasted the last 3 years. Also, looking at photos of me before i got into smoking, i don't recognise the person i was before i used to smoke any more.
Best piece of advice i can give for the first few days is buy a punch bag (the fat melts off of you) and drink a few coffees before you work out. It helps get over the sleeping problems even if you work out for less than half an hour (yes, less!), and after about 10 days you are not even considering that 'world' any more. After two weeks, you will find yourself being more mobile and energetic and more up for doing anything with your friends. IT also helps not to do anything you really enjoyed while smoking (i.e. playing video games) for a few weeks until it is all out of your system, as you begin to think 'this is so much better while stoned...' Find books you have been meaning to read, and set yourself targets.
Anyway, good luck to all who want to quit, and remember you have to have a valid reason to do it, otherwise your brain has the canny way of working around the meta-issues you use as excuses. Keep repeating your reason, and you will come through.

Sorry about the grammar and punctuation, it's very difficult to proof read in a car!

Hi Mr Lahey
Welcome to the Board. I am sorry to say it has been a bit quiet of late, there are a few regulars on here but life gets in the way unfortunately. I have the tendency to post loads for a few days then sort of forget until I either fall off the wagon or start thinking seriously about it. Good to hear the quit is going so well for you. I am on day 18 of quit 4 (in the past year) and I have reached this stage before. My previous record is 2.5 months, obviously I would like to go FOREVER but that is a concept I am struggling to grasp as you will tell from my posts if you have read them!
Keep posting and let us know how it is going.

Welcome and congrats on your quit!!! As Weedless said, we're all in the same boat here - and it's always good to hear from new people, where-ever they are with the quit. Ah, the infamous 'trip to Amsterdam' debacle! - I'm afriad it's been the downfall of more than one of us! - I'm avoiding a visit there until I feel MUCH stronger. Thanks for posting - I LOVE the punching bag idea - my husband will too, since he usually takes on that duty:wink:. Keep us informed - it really helps us all - especially when someone is having some success. I'm about 4 weeks into the 2nd stage of a 6 month quit!! (relapsed in there somewhere but trying not to think about it!)
