Read "Man Search for Meaning" my Viktor Frankl
Viktor Frankl was a Jewish physcologist who had developed a theory on mans need for purpose before he was carted of to the Nazi concentration camps in WWII. The first half of this book is his account from Austwich and the things that he noticed and the second half is how this related to his theory of "logo-therapy" - truely inspiring and helps anyone who has any questions of "what's it all about".
It's about £7 on amazon and can be read in about 2 days (70-odd pages). Awesome.
The underlying message that I took from it is that we've all got a choice about how we feel about something. There is a "space" between stimulus and response that can be identified and, if mastered, can allow you to feel however you choose about any given circumstance. The conditioning and programming we recieve since birth makes many of us feel that we're predetermined to feel a certain way when certain things happen...this is not the case.
In terms of how it's helped me with my quit, I've used the message to "control" my attitude since quitting to feel positive about what I'm gaining rather than negative about what I'm giving up - helps me to keep strong! | |
